Use a variety of tools for collecting input

Make sure that you can hear from people in a variety of ways - some participants might be chatty, others might like to write, and others might just want to answer questions. Mix it up and have methods available to engage everyone.

Balance the ease of participation with showing that input is valued!

Really helps to treat people like experts- reach out in a way that shows why you are asking for their input in particular, and then make it as easy as possible for them to engage. Ie: honour both their knowledge and their time.

Too often decision making authority is not clearly laid out or is removed from the process, giving the impression of lip service. Ideally decision makers are involved and accesible in an engagment process.
